The Bella Vista is a cozy two-story, four-bedroom cottage overlooking the Chesapeake Bay on historical Tangier Island, Virginia. The Bella Vista was designed to create a distinguishing experience capitalizing on personal service, the Island’s culture, and the cottage’s unique location in one of the most historic and attractive parts of the Chesapeake Bay.
Tangier Island is only accessible by passenger ferries, year around service from Crisfield, MD and seasonal transport from Onancock and Reedville, VA, and small aircraft. Centrally located in the Bay, it provides a genuinely peaceful retreat from life’s ruckus and is your gateway to a world that is a throwback in time. Bird watching, boating, kayaking, fishing, biking, exploring, or walking along the beach are all possible when staying at our cottage.
Inside, you'll find four cozy bedrooms with queen beds. There’s even a sleeper sofa in the den for additional space. There is one bathroom on each level with the downstairs offering a walk-in shower. What makes this place truly special is the large window westerly view of the Chesapeake Bay from both upstairs bedrooms and access to an expansive upper-level deck that offers a remarkable view of beautiful sunsets and Bay weather. A perfect place to unwind, taking in the fresh Bay breeze while swapping stories, and reveling in the enchanting atmosphere of a perfect evening under the stars while hearing the Bay splashing against the shoreline.
Beyond the cottage, discover the allure of Tangier Island, where tranquility meets captivating history. Ride bikes or walk to the history museum to learn about Tangier’s unique past, culture, and the challenges it faces with government seafood industry regulations, erosion and sea-level rise; visit the beautiful Methodist Church; investigate the different sections of the Island; enjoy coffee at Muddy Toes Cafe, ice cream at Four Brothers, lunch or dinner at Lorraine’s; walk the beautiful white beach that is not common in the mid-Atlantic states; enjoy retail therapy at the three gift stores; and shop at the Island’s only grocery store if you plan to prepare your own meals. If you're up for some boating adventures, and when in season, take a guided tour of a crab house to learn of the Chesapeake Bay blue crab molting process, observe Tangier watermen in action on the Bay, explore uninhabited parts of the Island, go “crab netting”, or travel to Smith Island, MD for lunch. Our family will also prepare a seasonal seafood dinner one night during your stay, if requested prior to your arrival.
Your Chesapeake Bay escape awaits. Book now and create unforgettable memories in this enchanting Island cottage.
